The making of our Shadow of the Colossus cover art
The idea for our Shadow of the Colossus cover artwork started with a simple question: Can 16 colossi fit in one image? | Sketch: Takeshi Oga for Design Room

In the early 2000s, Takeshi Oga was a new hire at Sony Computer Entertainment Japan working as a concept artist and background modeler as Shadow of the Colossus was wrapping up development. Unlike other people we’re running stories about this week, though… he wasn’t working on Shadow of the Colossus.

He was on another floor helping with the horror game Forbidden Siren 2, and he didn’t know anyone at Team Ico so he never saw much of Shadow around the office, despite being a big fan of Ico. So when I was planning out an oral history of Shadow of the Colossus, I started thinking it would be fun to reunite Oga with his missed connection.
